Infectious diseases are a growing global health and socioeconomic challenge. Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) comprises 40% of hospital-acquired infections. 80 % of UTIs are due to indwelling urinary catheter use. The daily risk of developing CAUTI is 3-7% and cumulatively increases the longer the catheter remains in place.
